At face value, it describes the peril of losing contact with home base as one travels deeper into space.

On a personal level, this track is about the pain of loneliness, the spiral of Rejection Sensitive Dysphoria.

A very important sample is used in the track, from Operation Wandering Soul, a propaganda campaign and psychological warfare effort exercised by U.S. forces during the Vietnam War. The moaning, screaming sound in the intro is a sample from that.
