about

This lyric as a whole, is a prayer to the cosmos for wisdom, and was based on a visualization meditation I performed during my more difficult depressive/anxious days. I would imagine my stressors as a thick, black fume, which coagulates into a solid black sphere.

I would then Imagine myself sending that sphere down to the core of the earth, as if a tunnel had opened beneath me, and the earth had become transparent, allowing me to see the black sphere dissolve in the white-hot metallic center of the earth.

My original intent for the concept "Pierce The Earth" was going to be a hypersexual analogy for intense and inexpressible levels of sexual frustration. I scrapped those lyrics, as they ended up being weapons-grade cringe material, and no one will ever see them.

This lyric contains many personal references, including the line "serpents of iron," which is a direct reference to the main enemies from the video game "Journey" released for the PS3, a favourite of mine for days when I'm in the mood for casual gaming.

Lastly, "mask of the hunter" refers to an African mask I was gifted by my mother, called "Mbara" by the Ghanaian Craftsperson who made it. The word literally means "hunter." That should make plain the line "call to my fallen/ancestors risen."

Midway through the track, you will hear a sample of tribal drums, which are from Morocco, pulled from a Youtube recording. Hard as hell to sync up, but fun fact, once you get them synced, the tempo is perfect for many measures more than what appears in the song. more African drums in my track "March on the Sky."

lyrics

Open up the sky
Pierce the earth
Cull my enemies
Send them to the core

Serpents of iron
Hatred of self
Endless wanting
Bury them well

Horrors of mind
Contempt for life
Loss of the real
Open my eyes

Call to my fallen
Ancestors risen
Mask of the hunter
Grant me wisdom.

Mbara.
