about

This track features extensive use of the NASA archive audio recording of STS-129 Shuttle Atlantis mission to ISS on Nov 16, 2009; as well as TTS recordings of the Wikipedia article concerning the physics concept of escape velocity, the speed at which an object is free from earth's gravity.

At face value, it's about taking off from the planet, with the track divided into three parts, similar to a three stage rocket. As it relates to my personal story, it represents the point of decision to move on from wherever I am.

A breakup, a house move, a change in my philosophy, quitting drinking, finding a community, and recommitting myself to my mental health were some of the things that launched me into a unique emotional journey, giving rise to the themes of this album.

Other samples include:

Bass drums: Cincinnati Reds Fireworks, downtuned.
Snares: assault rifle shooting range recording (youtube)
Riser sounds: Tesla motor test (youtube)
Explosive Crash: Proteus fusion drive detonation (Lost in Space, 1988)
